This is great news from the senate president’s constituency.

At a time when Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed remains a big question mark on same-sex marriage legislation, the Democratic City Committee in her home city of Newport has endosed the bill

Three marriage proposals. I love this commercial from Argentina, which in 2010 became the first Latin American country to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide.

this is the story of Patricia Baker, she is 54 and has worked as a correctional officer for Rhode Island for 31 years. She gave an emotional speech at the senate hearing for bill 29 this past thursday.

“In 2005, I married Deborah Tevyaw in Massachusetts. Together, we own a home and have a family that includes Deb’s two children and two grandchildren.

While the government always recognizes my federal income tax contributions deducted bi-weekly from my paycheck, they do not extend that recognition to my marriage. I worked all my life for these benefits, only to be told that they will go back to the government because our marriage is not recognized. She needs this money to continue on after I pass, and if our marriage was recognized, there would be no question of that.”

Oldie, but totally goodie.

Golden Girls take on marriage equality.

Hello!

We have gotten a huge increase of followers in the past few weeks.

HELLO ALL!

We want to give you an idea of what Callformeri.org is up to and how to get involved:

On February 26th we joined forces with the harry potter alliance   making:

-over 6,000 phone calls!

- 46 voicemails left for legislators in support of marriage equality!

-214 postcards to hand deliver to legislators for the marriage equality bill!

If we can do that in one day, think about what we can in the next couple of weeks.

The problem is, we need you. We need your friends, your roommates, your dog if they are proficient in English, to make these calls. Two hours. Two hours out of your busy day can be the reason we get marriage equality in Rhode Island. The beautiful thing is, you can call from anywhere. We have people in California, New Jersey, Ohio, and of course Rhode Island, making calls, making a difference.

One message, one postcard, could be all it takes to change a legislator’s mind. As the bill is coming up for a vote in both the house and senate, you and your phone calling skills are more than needed.  Join us. Join the hundreds of people making calls for marriage equality.

This Sunday, March 13th, 1pm-8pm EST we’ll be hosting our second “Senate Sunday.” Last Sunday we made 227 dials and generated 7 voicemails, with just two people calling! This sunday we’re hoping for 6 volunteers!

If you think you’d like to be part of history, sign up for callformeri.org, we’ll give you a call in the next few days and you’ll be set to call on sunday. Sunday doesn’t work for you, but you’re still interested? Sign up anyway, we’ll be having different action days in the near future.
